Another Cleveland Councilman Learns His (Likely) Fate
Henry Gomez at the Plain Dealer is reporting that Councilman Zack Reed got a sneak peek at the working draft of the redistricting of council wards headed to the entire council by the end of the month. Like Ward 15 Councilman Brian Cummins, Reed is on the outside looking in.
According to Reed, the plan eliminates most of his existing base and drops his residence into a small piece of the existing Ward 2, meaning Reed will be forced to run for council in a ward he currently does not represent. One advantage for Reed is that current Ward 2 Councilman Nate Wilkes is not expected to run again.
One other option that the PD article doesn't mention, but could materialize, is the possibility that Reed runs for a seat in a ward that he does not plan to live in. It's legal, and one councilperson, Joe Santiago, is doing it now. (Santiago lives in Joe Cimperman's Ward 13, but represents Ward 14).
OhioDaily will have more in the morning on the council reduction plan as well as a report from a meeting in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood happening tonight.
