Brunner Grills Fisher
Well, not really. In one of the first displays of honest-to-goodness campaign creativity (other than policy releases and fundraising items), the Brunner campaign today invited its supporters to host a "Brunner Barbeque" on June 28th.
Let me be the first to say how much I love this.
For the past few months, this campaign (the whole Senate enchilada) has been very hard to touch-and-feel. The candidates have been behind closed doors, on the phone, planning and plotting, etc. With this event, the Brunner campaign finally steps out into the sunshine of retail politics. Thank goodness. The consultants were starting to look a little pale.
This event (which really is nothing more than a House Party with lighter fluid) hopefully sets the stage for what could be a summer of fun, interesting, and real political events for these candidates. I've already grown tired of reading the analysis of every single move these folks make and how it impacts the race. Hell, I'm tired of writing it. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel.
The Fisher campaign has been (to this point) a few hours behind the Brunner camp in everything from their formal entry into the race last January to yesterday's response to President Obama's nominee for the Supreme Court, so it wouldn't surprise me to see an email about "Fisher Beach Parties" coming around 3pm. But frankly, I don't care. Send it. I'll cover both.
If Tyrone Yates and Peter Lawson Jones want to have picnics, cornhole tournaments, or corn roasts, I'll be there too. I'm just glad to see some good old-fashioned field work happening and signs of life from anyone. So keep it coming!
And Jennifer, I take mine medium-well.

I do not want to see Lee Fisher in a bathing suit, OK?
Can we at least be spared that? Thank you. That would be right up there with the time consultants told Bob Dole that he was too stiff and formal and got him out campaigning in bermudas and a Hawaiian shirt. You could just about see him wondering how long it would be before he could get back into his navy blue suit.
