Despite VP Chatter, Portman Not Setting the World on Fire

Incredibly Boring White Guy Apparently Not Crazy Enough for GOP Voters.

A few weeks ago, a report came out that an unnamed Republican official felt that Mitt Romney should seek out an "incredibly boring white guy" as his running mate. Naturally, this revelation caused the rumors about Portman being that running mate to go into overdrive. Who could fill that description more aptly!

But then look at this Washington Post poll:

Democrats seem more familiar with him and overwhelmingly don't like him, of course. But less than half of Republicans have an opinion, and of those, slightly more are unfavorable than favorable. I'm not sure why. This guy is a blandly pleasant piece of walking white bread. They should be happy, I guess. The problem is that these days it seems like GOP voters want someone who appears to be a lunatic. Portman is going to have to work a lot harder to appear crazy enough for the teabaggers apparently.
