Grim Thoughts This Morning
It's always darkest just before it's totally black
By now, we've all seen Tim's video as it rockets around the Internet and now progressive talk radio.
I watched it right before going to bed last night, a clear mistake as it kept me up for quite a while. You have to wonder at the sort of people shown in this video and what sort of lives they really live loaded down with such hatred.
When my beloved wife ran for State Rep in 2006, she got a death threat on our voice mail. That was for a simple state representative position and that was in the primary!
I also have to think this morning about if Obama wins this race what sort of Presidency he will have. Not only will he be tasked with cleaning some of the worst messes ever left to a President, he will be the focus of a concerted daily, hourly even attack from the moment he his sworn in.
Remember when Clinton was sworn in on January of 1993, Rush Limbaugh began his show with the theme "America Held Hostage, Day 1" and he did that for the next two years.
I forsee it being 10 times worse when Obama is sworn in. There will be a constant drumbeat against him day after day after day, poisoning the atmosphere. I don't think we've seen anything yet.
Then there is that issue that many think about but few are willing to talk about. Seeing and hearing the crowds at McCain/Palin rallies over the last couple of days makes me really worry about Obama's safety, but the ones I really really worry about are those wonderful little girls of his. Go back and watch the video and tell me you think differently.

As an 85 year old woman...
...video like this makes me very sad. While the video can not be seen as true journalism, as it did have a biased objective, that does not dismiss the pure anger that resonated from many of the people featured. I continue to hold on to hope that a majority of our population will continue to pride themselves on freeing their minds of such backwards thinking and continue to learn and grow. These are scared and angry people and it is a less full and joyful life they will lead if they continue to let those fears guide them. And frankly - if those are the supporters the republican party is going to embrace - they can have them!

I was thinking the same
I was thinking the same thing last night!
As it becomes more likely Obama may get elected, you have to start thinking of what Bill Clinton went through.
What republicans don't like to admit, as they bash about the "mistakes" of Clinton and democrats, is that they had control over the government. They just happened to have a democratic president. They've had control for decades now. Where has that led us? In the hole. It is amazing to think of all that Clinton accomplished while republicans dragged him through the mud day in and day out. They were out to get him from the moment he was elected.
They will do the same to Obama. The only good news is that at least the democrats have a presence and control in our government. But Obama better work fast if he's elected. All it takes is one slip up, or in 2012 we'll be right back where we started.
