Joyce Healy-Abrams to Open Canton HQ Thursday June 7
We've previously mentioned Joyce Healy-Abrams, a political novice who is bravely taking on teabagger incumbent Bob Gibbs in Ohio's new 7th district.
The district is yet another huge mess of a district, resembling a big reclining "C." It runs from central Ohio all the way up to within a few blocks of the lakefront in Lorain County. Nice work, mapmakers!
While the district leans Republican and will be tough to flip, Healy-Abrams has some assets in the race. She's been backed by Emily's List. And Gibbs is running in mostly new territory as well so he doesn't have the advantage of name recognition. But to have any shot at all, Joyce will need help. So if you are anywhere near Canton, stop in her headquarters opening next Thursday June 7, and see what you can do to help.
It take place from 5:30-7:30 at 2645 Cleveland Avenue, Unit # in Canton. And her flyer promises that the Stark County Democratic Women's Club will be providing cookies! You can RSVP to Justin@HealyAbramsForCongress.com or you can just show up and ask "Where do I sign up to volunteer?"
And here's the good word for those of you who might be thinking that Joyce is another Blue Dog like Zack Space, the Democrat Gibbs ousted, who played coy with health-care reform based in part on the abortion issue. The ongoing attacks on women are uppermost in many Democrats' minds. Joyce has served on the board of her local Planned Parenthood. Wouldn't it be nice to replace Gibbs with someone who will stand up for women and not voting "yea" on every terrible bill that would make their life harder?
