Let's get Jennifer Brunner elected!
It's not secret that the folks here at Ohio Daily Blog are big Jennifer Brunner supporters. During the last year, she has habitually been the strongest, boldest, most outspoken progressive in the race. That hasn't always sat well with party insiders, and she knows a lot fewer rich people than her opponent, so her fundraising hasn't been nearly as impressive as his. So she has endured a year of narratives about how she should quit the race and leave it to the money boys.
And yet ... here we are, five days from the start of early voting, less than six weeks from the May 4 primary. And all that money hasn't bought Lee Fisher an edge in the primary — or in general election polling against Rob Portman. A poll released this week shows Jennifer behind Portman a single point (38-37) with Fisher four points behind (40-36).
OK, with so many undecided, and so many unaware of the race at all, these figures are only marginally meaningful. What they do show is that Lee Fisher hasn't been able to use his money effectively to gain an edge on Jennifer. He's been reduced to divisive schemes last last week's sudden, 11th-hour bid for the state party endorsement. So how can he hope to beat Rob Portman, when Fisher becomes the one with the huge money deficit?
Jennifer has shown she can keep the pace and use her money efficiently. So let's give her a boost. Tomorrow the campaign is holding a money bomb — urging people to make a donation, however small (or large) at http://www.victoryforcourage.com/
If you can help out, that'd be great. I am going to do so, even though my transmission blew outside Toledo this past weekend and I'll be paying THAT off for a year at least. I hope you will join me. And tell all your friends!
