McCain Flings Baseless "Kindergarten Sex Education" Charge at Obama
The lies and smears are flying out of the McCain campaign at a prodigious pace. Honestly, the public (and the media) need to figure out that they can and should hold McCain accountable for the disgustingly dishonest campaign he is running.
The only way to deal with lies is to rebut them, swiftly and authoritatively. The latest is an ugly attack ad that falsely claims that Barack Obama "hasn't made a significant mark on education" and then repeats the charge, already hurled at Obama and debunked during his U.S. Senate race, that Obama's "one accomplishment" is "legislation to teach comprehensive sex education to kindergartners." The ad then unloads the scare bomb of kindergartners "learning about sex before learning how to read," which is as baseless as it is inflammatory.
This ad a tissue of lies and the McCain campaign knows it. The legislation for which Obama voted (he was not a sponsor, and the law was not enacted) provided for non-mandatory, age-appropriate sex education. As discussed here and here, Obama does not support explicit education about sex to kindergartners but instead age-appropriate teaching such as waht constitutes "inappropriate touching" -- in others words, teaching that protects children by helping them to avoid sexual predators. Also, Obama has a strong record on education, having worked on numerous bills at the state and federal level, while it is John McCain who has shown little interest in education.
In another baseless attack yesterday, McCain pretended that Obama's reference to "lipstick on a pig" at a campaign event was a reference to Sarah Palin personally rather than the McCain/Palin campaign's claim of wanting "change." Obama's remarks plainly did not refer to Palin, as expained by Marc Ambinder and Dave Harding, who point out that McCain used the same terminology when referring to Hillary Clinton's health care proposals.

McCain ad on Obama and Sex Education
I'm from upstate NY . Yesterday at work several Obama supporters happened to be talking about McCain's ad about Obama supporting sex education for kindergarteners. They said it was a lie, that he is for age appropriate sex education. So I decided to do some checking. The proposed bill has no mention of "age appropriate".
Link here: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=&SessionId=3&GA=93&...
There is an amendment which adds "age appropriate" Link here: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/fulltext.asp?DocName=09300SB0099sam001&G...
However, if you check the status of the bill here:
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillStatus.asp?DocNum=0099&GAID=3&DocTyp...
The proposed bill was recommended for passage by the Health and Human Services Committee, which Barack chaired. However, the amendment was not passed in the 93rd General Assembly and Barack was not a member of the 94th General Assembly because he ran for and became Senator.
If my research is faulty, please provide insight as to how it is faulty.
My vote wouldn't depend on just this one issue. The thing is, it isn't just this one issue. Barack Obama also called the ad lies. Why didn't he just say they passed the bill without age appropriate in the language and later realized it should say age appropriate? Maybe because that would show incompetence for drafting legislation?
I am a survivor of sexual
I am a survivor of sexual abuse. I was abused when I was
seven years old by a priest. For the past 26 years, the abuse has infected my mind, body and soul. Although I am fortunate to recover each year, it is always there; lurking.
Senator Mccain's attack on Senator Obama in reference to
"sex education" for kindergartners is tantamount to aiding and abetting pedophiles. The ad and his endorsement are an incognizant attack on the innocent children who have suffered crimes of sexual predators.
Senator McCain's advertisement shows little regard for thoughtful politics and exemplifies the maverick attitude of shoot first and ask questions later.
Senator McCain apparently leads by the adage, "Ignorance is bliss". If Senator McCain, took the time to learn about the child sexual abuse issue, he would have been enlightened by the following facts:
The statistics are shocking
* 1 in 4 girls is sexually abused before the age of 18. (96)
* 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused before the age of 18. (96)
* 1 in 5 children are solicited sexually while on the internet. (30, 87)
* Nearly 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults)
occur to children ages 17 and under. (76)
* An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today. (1)
Sexual abuse can occur at all ages, probably younger than you think
* The median age for reported abuse is 9 years old. (64)
* More than 20% of children are sexually abused before the age of 8. (76)
Programs like Good Touch / Bad Touch (trademark) run by
childhelp.org teach children to recognize and report sexual abuse. Education is one of the key means of reducing this heinous crime. Protection of children is a universal goal, to which we should all strive. Senator McCain by endorsing this advertisement has bartered the safety of our children for his own political gain.
Many Americans have been unfortunately affected by this
important issue either directly or indirectly.
Please give consideration of this issue when deciding
the course of the next four years.
Senator McCain espouses accountability and personal
responsibility. I encourage Senator McCain to have
conviction in his words; honor in his actions; truth in his thoughts and to denounce the advertisement.
Obama and Mc Cain.....
I watched the latest debate between Barack Obama and John McCain. Although the “town-hall”-style TV debate attracted more than 60 million viewers, the majority were not satisfied with countless indirect answers to many of the questions that were asked that night. Instead of providing firm resolution for the well-being of all Americans, they hope to bring on a larger number of citizens to take sides by means of personal criticism. McCain continued to proclaim his “stay the course” stance on Iraq and his oil drilling policies. On the other hand, Obama carried on criticizing Republican policies that he claimed have led to America’s current recession. This unremitting action of theirs only leaves us wondering exactly how either of them would work to prevent further economic catastrophes. America needs a logical economic proposal. Obama encourages the scheme to wipe out the payday loan industry, which is not a logical solution to the real economic problems we face. This is only to add more flavors for the banking and credit union appetizer.
