Is Mike "Who?" Turner Losing His Mind?

Mike "Who?" Turner, the longtime congressman from the Dayton area, isn't known for standing out in a crowd. But it seems like he's giving it a shot to rise from anonymity.

Not willing to let his teabagger colleagues have a monopoly on The Crazy, Turner is claiming that President Obama has made a "secret deal" with the Russians.

Embracing the kind of tactics you might see from the conspiratorial fringes of the right-wing blogosphere, the Ohio congressman and other Republicans on the House Armed Services Committee have been slowly building the case that Americans are being kept dangerously in the dark on the country's proposed missile defense system in Europe.

These guys apparently haven't gotten the message that the Cold War is over, and Russia is not the bigger scary threat it once was. Although this "secret deal" narrative is based on generous interpretation (to the point of adding a little fantasy) of some general remarks the President has made, Romney promised to make it a campaign issue (probably to distract from his promises to throw millions of people out of work and yet somehow miraculously bring down the unemployment rate) and Turner seems to be trotting behind him like a good little puppy.

Luckily, the voters of the newly configured Dayton (Montgomery County) area district have a better choice: Sharen Neuhardt.

This is a sleeper race, one that could be winnable if everything goes the right way. It would be especially sweet to replace him with a smart, dynamic woman like Sharen, since he demonstrated how firmly he's part the pack of Republicans who love to babble about "freedom" and "liberty" but will do everything in their power to make sure they only apply to men when he called the Paycheck Fairness Act a "stunt" on a radio talk show today.

You know what is really a stunt? That he keeps getting reelected, despite a lengthy record of non-accomplishment. Let's see if we can change that.
