John McCain talks of turning down early release as a POW as if it was from the goodness of his heart.

"Early release was forbidden by the military's Code of Conduct. To prevent the enemy from subverting prisoners or using them as propaganda tools, officers were to accept release in the order they were captured..."

He was simply following what was required of him as all prisoners did. Although he graduated number 895 of his class of 899, I guess he learned one thing.
