OH-05: AGAIN With The Lying by Latta (R)
Having been found by the Ohio Elections Commission to have lied about his opponent in the GOP special primary, State Rep. Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) has now resorted to lying about hard-charging special general election opponent Robin Weirauch (D-Napoleon).
A Latta press release yesterday announcing his new TV ad stirring up fear of illegal immigrants contains this whopper (emphasis added):
Latta concluded, “There is a clear difference between myself and my opponent, Robin Weirauch on the issue of illegal immigration. Robin supports taxpayer funded healthcare for illegal immigrants (HR 676). Hard working Americans have a tough enough time paying for health care, the last thing our government should do is give health care to those who have broken our laws.”
Wrong! HR 676 is a measure sponsored by Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), but Weirauch does not support it -- in fact she opposes any government benefits for illegal immigrants. As reported in the Toledo Blade today in a story titled "Latta, Weirauch take same stand against illegals," Weirauch's spokesman set the record straight:
"Robin Weirauch and Rep. Latta agree that we must secure the borders and make sure that illegal immigrants aren't rewarded for breaking the law - that means absolutely no amnesty, no driver's licenses, and no benefits for illegal immigrants," [Communications Director Brad] Bauman said.Mr. Bauman's statement also said, "Robin strongly believes that Washington must enforce our immigration laws and hold employers accountable when they break them."
True to form, Latta is lying about an opponent, showing not only that he can't be trusted but that he is alarmed by Weirauch's strong pro-worker, pro-middle class message. Just think, Latta is the candidate who started this general election campaign by indicating that he wouldn't be mentioning his opponent. Oh my, how things have changed.
UPDATE: The lies are writ large in the RNCC attack ad, which also falsely claims that Weirauch supports amnesty for illegal aliens.
I stand corrected: Weirauch did support HR 676, but she denies that it provides benefits to illegal aliens.

Lying Latta
When you have a career politician who's life goal was to follow his father's footsteps in congress and he sees that goal slipping away, he'll do anything to win an election. Between all the lies, my favorite was accusing Buehrer of taking money from Latta when Latta did the exact same thing. It's obvious that the penalties for lying about your opponent are not serious enough or Latta would stop with the lies and start talking about his record. The only problem with that though is outside of something involving a Bald Eagle, Latta has been one of the least effective legislators in Ohio. A total do nothing who rides the coattails of his father. A complete empty suit - that's Bob.
