He isn't alone
I read that the banking + insurance + real estate industries gave over 300 million to this congress in an opinion piece which explained why this massive bailout will happen. So it doesn't surprise me.
Latourette's ethical lapses
Yes, Latourette isn't alone in accepting huge donations from the interests he is supposed to be overseeing. But, not being alone in accepting these donations does not make it right or ethical.
But, I find his case doubly interesting in that he is married to a high-powered DC lobbyist at Van Scoyco, Jennifer Laptook Latourette,VP. (you know the story, his former chief of staff, affair led to breakup of Latourette's first marriage - by phone, as I recall - and Laptook leaves LaTourette's office one day and ends up a high-powered lobbyist the next et al)
You just might want to check out the industries Mrs. Latourette's firm lobbyies for and then compare it to industry contributions to Latourette at Opensecrets.org.
Banking Bill
You realize that Strickland and Biden voted for the same bill. And it was signed by President Clinton. It wasn't just the GOP.
