OH-5: Latta (R) and Buehrer (R) in School Prayer Fight

Matt at Right Angle Blog reports that the feuding GOP front-runners in the 5th Congressional District special primary are now duking it out over teacher-led prayer and posting the ten commandments in public schools, which both candidates profess to support.

Matt reproduces a four-part mailer by State Rep. Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green), alleging that State Sen. Steve Beuhrer (R-Delta) opposes these "values":

The basis for Latta's claim is Buehrer's checklist of positions on Eduction Issues at Project Vote Smart. It does appear that Buehrer failed to indicate support for teacher-led voluntary prayer and posting of the ten commandments in public schools.

Matt called the Buehrer campaign and was told that either Buehrer made a mistake in filling out the questionnaire or VoteSmart made a mistake in posting it. Matt also links to previous Buehrer actions defending the words "under God" in the Declaration of Independence and "With God, all things are possible" as the state motto, and a bill he sponsored to "confirm the ten commandments as the moral underpinning of the state government of Ohio." (Matt also slams "liberal Latta" for "bearing false witness," among other epithets and allegations omitted here.)

Bottom line

Given this whole "who is holier" debate it is clear they both must be defeated.

Again: why aren't sincere folks condemning this perversion

Another example of how people who are sincere in their beliefs and practice of their belief aren't standing up to say how contrary this kind of campaigning is to the tenets of religion, any religion: being true to it. No one will ever convince me that such bandying about of things that many people actually HOLD SACRED are not profaned by these politicians when they engage is this garbage. Absolutely shameful. Complete perversion. Or just totally insincere crap on the part of the candidates in the first place. Makes me absolutely livid.

Who is more Christian? Or Jewish for that matter.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.
