OH Sen-26: Gillmor (R) A Possible Candidate?
This item is speculative, but Karen L. Gillmor, Ph.D. (R-Dublin), who is Vice Chairman of the State Employment Relations Board and the widow of the late Rep. Paul Gillmor (R), has $26,112.46 in her campaign treasury according to records on file with the Ohio Secretary of State. For what purpose?
Gillmor was an Ohio Senator previously and the 26th Ohio Senate District, where she now lives, is an open seat because incumbent State Sen. Larry Mumper (R-Marion) is term-limited.
ADDENDUM: I should have mentioned, the 26th District is in Union, Logan, Marion, Wyandot, Crawford, Seneca, Sandusky and Ottawa Counties, stretching from north-central to northern and northwestern Ohio. It leans strongly Republican (PVI R+8). The district includes the 81st, 82nd, and 83rd Ohio House Districts, all held by Republicans. Incumbent Larry Mumper was unopposed in 2004.

Karen Gillmor
I have heard that Karen Gillmor is running for the Ohio Senate in 2008. I do not know with if anybody else is running but I have heard that Fremont City Councilman and former State Rep Rex Damschroder is possibly running.
Karen Gillmor Rex Damschroder
I predict Karen Gillmor will run but she will have a difficult primary battle with Fremont City Councilman At Large and former State Representative Rex Damschroder. Gillmor will do well in the southern part of the District but Rex should do well in Sandusky and Seneca Counties.
reinhard
Steve Reinhard from Bucyrus is in. Not sure about Gillmor or Damschroder.
A few Sandusky County names could enter
I have heard some rumblings from the Sandusky County area that some political newcomers may throw their name in the mix. More to come on this.
State Senate Race 26th District
Who is running from Sandusky County besides Rex Damschroder. Do you have any news about the State Rep race or the County races in Sandusky County as well.
I would either predict
I would either predict Commissioner Brad Smith, mayor Terry Overmyer, or GOP chair Adam Greenslade. I am not aware of any other names for the Senate Race. Remember the 2010 State Rep Race will be the hotly contested race to enter when Wagner is term limited.
The Senate Race
I had been told Adam Greenslade may be running for the State Seante race, but I have been informed he is running for Sandusky County Commissioner. Not sure about Smith or Overmyer, although if Rex is in I doubt Brad Smith would run against him.
Senate
Adam Greenslade is running for County Commissioner. If Rex runs Brad Smith wont run for the senate. I highly doubt Mayor Overmyer will run for the State Senae but he is the only other high profile Republican I would predict running for the State Senate.
Smith or Overmyer
Brad Smith is a popular County Commissioner who was Re-Elected to a 3rd Term as Commissioner in a very Democratic year like 2006. He would win Sandusky County by a large margin and would most likely do well in neigboring Seneca County. I do not know how well he would do in the Southern area of the District.
Fremont Mayor Terry Overmyer is a very popular mayor and is unopposed for a 5th term of Mayor. He holds the record for being the longest serving Mayor of Fremont and has been unopposed every time since his 1991 election. This is even after he switched from Democrat to Republican in 2001. He would do well in Sand County as well.
Rex Damschroder a current Fremont City Councilman and former State Representative is who I bet will be the candidate to run for the seat against Karen Gillmor. Rex has served in the Ohio House before but seems to be suffering politically from his run against Paul Gillmor in the 2002 Republican Primary. He did not run for Congress and even declined to seek an election to a full term on the Fremont Council this November. I think this would be the job Rex will run for.
Sandusky County Republican Chairman Adam Greenslade is running for County Commissioner. However he would be a strong candidate for the Senate due to his job as Republican State Committeeman for the 26th District. However he has announced he is seeking Sandusky County Commissioner.
The race to watch for is the 2010 Republican primary for State Representative. Let is when some of these indiviudals will probaly seek office at the state level of government.
Greenslade's opponents
Who else is running against Greenslade for Commissioner?
Any new news?
Anyone hear if Gillmor or Damschroder are in?
What I'm Hearing...
For Commissioner, Greenslade looks to be challenging a council-person from Woodville by the name of Ty Tracey for the Republican slot; the winner of which will likely face former Lindsay Mayor Glen Baker, who was defeated by incumbant Brad Smith in the democrat almost-sweep last time.
Karen Gillmor is a wild-card and is anyone's guess?
Rex Damschroder is a likely possibility, but who knows since he isn't re-running for Council and bowed out of a real shot at the Congressional seat, maybe his interest is waining?
Brad Smith is rumored locally to be debating about challenging a fellow Republican incumbant for a Common Pleas judgeship in 2008, although he has quietly considered a Senate run in the event that Damschroder & State Rep Jeff Wagner choose not to run. He would be running for either of these from a safe seat as Commissioner.
Anyone else hearing the same info?
Greenslade Tracy
Yes I have heard that Adam Greenslade will face Ty Tracy a Woodville Councilman in the Republican Primary to replace retiring Republican Commissioner Dan Liskai. Adam Greenslade is well known in the eastern end of the County and in other areas from his job as County GOP chairman. Ty is well known in Woodville and the western end of the county. I predict who can win Fremont will win the primary. The winner of the March Primary will face Democrat Glenn Baker of Lindsey who is making his second run for County Commissioner. He did lose to Brad Smith in 2006. This campaign will be a very interesting primary and General Election.
I look for Rex to run for the State Senate in 2008. However I was suprised that he did not run for City Council or Congress this year. Rex was appointed to the Council to replace Troy Thatcher in 2005 and I would have guessed he would of sought the full term.
I have also heard that Brad Smith may run for Judge in 2008 or State Rep in 2010. That would open up his commissioner seat in a few years as well. There is a lot of political news in Sandusky County and it could make some changes.
Greenslade Tracy
I have heard that Adam Greenslade is running against Ty Tracy in the Republican Primary for Sandusky County Commissioner. Adam Greenslade will do well in the eastern end of the County and his job as Republican Chairman may help him in other areas of the County. Ty Tracy will do well in Woodville and the western end. Whomever wins Fremont and Ballville Township will win the Primary.
I would bet that Rex will run for the Senate but I was suprised he did not seek a full term on Council. He was appointed by Fremont Republican Committee in 2005 to replace Troy Thatcher when he resigned. I also predicted that he would run for Congress but he did not.
I have also heard that Brad Smith may run for Judge or State Senate in 2008. We will have to wait and see what he decides to do. He will make a strong candidate no matter what he runs for.
Greenslade Announces
Greenslade Announces Candidacy
for County Commissioner’s Seat
Clyde – Green Springs resident Adam Greenslade announced his candidacy for Sandusky County commissioner today, launching a campaign for the seat being vacated by retiring commissioner Dan Liskai. The election to fill the seat will occur in November of 2008.
The 29-year-old member of the Ohio Republican Party’s State Central & Executive Committee has worked for candidates at every level of government throughout his political career, but Greenslade’s bid for county commissioner marks his first campaign for countywide office as a candidate himself. As a member of the Republican central committee, Greenslade represents Sandusky County and seven other counties that make up the 26th Senate District.
He offers more than a decade of government experience to the commissioner’s office, having worked for elected officials in both chambers of the Ohio General Assembly, including four years in the office of State Senator Larry Mumper (R-Marion), and now working as an independent government and public affairs advocate.
“Although I spent eight years in Columbus furthering my education and working in state government, I never left Sandusky County,” Greenslade commented. “I knew I had to leave home to broaden my experiences and network of contacts, but I did so with the intention of returning home to use these resources to benefit our community.”
According to Brenda Rando, President of the Green Springs Business and Community Foundation, Greenslade is doing that. “Adam Greenslade has been a tremendous asset to our local group. His knowledge, experience and contacts are invaluable to our organization. He was very instrumental in attaining a grant for a comprehensive planning study, which I’m not sure we ever would have done, or even known about, without him.”
Greenslade kicked off his campaign with appearances in the Clyde and Green Springs Halloween Parades this weekend. Given his close ties to these communities, Greenslade feels that the back-to-back events presented a great opportunity to make his inaugural public appearance in front of home crowds.
