Ohio Congressman Turning Up the Hate on D.C. Same-Sex Marriage Advocates

Ohio Republican Congressman Jim Jordan is still on a mission to deny same-sex couples the right to marry in the District of Columbia. Jordan joins Rep. Jason Chaffetz of Utah as the only co-sponsor of a bill that would prohibit DC from allowing the marriages unless passed as a referendum or initiative. The move seeks to overturn a same-sex marriage bill passed by the D.C. City County last year. (OhioDaily first reported on this story in May)
Because of D.C.'s unique situation (as the only part of the county where citizens are denied the protections and representation of statehood), laws such as the one signed by Mayor Adrian Fenty last December, are subject to congressional review. Imagine the outrage by Jim Jordan if Washington ideologues like...well...Jim Jordan, were sticking their noses into the Ohio legislative process and reversing the will of the elected representatives of our state. It should also come as no surprise that Jordan is opposed to letting gays and lesbians serve openly in the U.S. military. In today's Columbus Dispatch, Jordan again invokes his all-knowing, all-disapproving voice into the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" debate.
"Active-duty military service and civilian life are vastly different, and I would have great concerns about what introducing open homosexuality into the military might do to jeopardize the effectiveness, readiness and preparedness of our military," Jordan said.
With Jordan so distracted by the "national gay crisis," you'd think we'd have a stellar list of candidates ready to square off against him in November and provide a pro-jobs, anti-government in our lives agenda. Unfortunately, at least to the best of our knowledge, not a single Democrat has filed in this race. To run for congress in Ohio, you DO NOT need to live in the district you wish to serve in. So, Ohio Dems, someone get over to the 4th Congressional District and pull petitions. Once you do, drop us a line and let's get started challenging the misguided Republican agenda. We can't afford to leave giant holes on our Democratic ticket - especially when incumbents like Jim Jordan are trying to turn back civil rights.
Prospects not good
This central Ohio district hooks around the Columbus area to the west and north, taking in Mansfield (Hey – maybe Sherrod could quit the Senate and run!), Marion, Lima, Sidney (so it could be worse — neanderthal legislator John Adams, sponsor the "man's right to choose" bill and the bill to repeal the state income tax, could primary Jordan from the right), and Findlay. In the last election, Jordan swamped Mike Carroll 177,017 to 93,495. It has had a Republican congressman since 1938.
According to Wikipedia "In Congress, Jordan is among the most conservative Republicans, earning a perfect score from the American Conservative Union." (But Adams could still primary him from the right, I'm sure). Obviously, this is just peachy with the residents of this district.
By the way, can anyone find me Jim Jordan's military record? That's what I actually went to Wikipedia to search for, and I just can't locate it. I'm sure as a four-time state wrestling champion, he was just the type of big strapping healthy boy the army needs, and I'm sure a patriot like Jordan answered the call of his country, right?
