Ohio State Rep. Robin Belcher gets key Plain Dealer Newspaper Endorsement in 10th House District Race

CLEVELAND – Ohio State Rep. Robin Belcher (D-10) received another key endorsement when the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper endorsed her candidacy earlier today.

“I am honored to have the Cleveland newspaper of record endorse my campaign,” said Rep. Belcher. “I appreciate and am grateful for their support. I will continue to work towards making this district stronger in the area of job creation and economic development, access to quality education and safer communities.”

This endorsement comes on the heels of a groundswell of community support the Representative has been getting.

Below is the Plain Dealer’s Editorial Board endorsement:

“Last spring, two Cleveland politicians attempted a job swap. Second-term Rep. Eugene Miller resigned from the Ohio House and Coats quit City Council after 21 years. Coats' old colleagues added Miller to council, but the Democratic caucus in Columbus rejected Coats -- and Patmon, who also sought the appointment -- in favor of Belcher, an assistant county prosecutor. Now Democratic primary voters get their say.

They should ratify the caucus' decision and nominate Belcher for a full term. She already has shown potential as a lawmaker, and as a single mother with a master's degree in public administration, she brings unusual perspective and depth to the job. Patmon, who has lost two straight mayoral races, could serve ably, and Coats' heart is in the right place, but he barely made a mark during two decades at City Hall. This district needs energetic representation, and Democrats should not miss this chance to embrace a fresh face with a bright future.” – The Plain Dealer Editorial Board, April 05, 2010, 4:34AM
