Space Blasts Boehner for Proposed Gutting of Veterans Affairs
Democratic Congressman Zack Space today took a much needed swipe at Congressman John Boehner after the GOP House Leader introduced a series of three amendments to the Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill that would have slashed $62 million from the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Apparently John Boehner feels this is just more wasteful Washington spending. I'm not sure the veterans in his district (one of whom, Justin Coussoule, is running against him) agree with his assessment.
Here's Space :
“I’m proud that when I came to Congress, we passed the largest increase in VA funding in history. And now, we’ve seen what the Republican priorities are; they want to take us backward and slash funding for services that our veterans earned as soon as they put on the uniform of the United States.”
“These priorities are absolutely wrong, they are absolutely out of touch, and they are absolutely a disservice to our veterans. I won’t allow us to go backward when it comes to our men and women in uniform.”
Space, who serves as a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee has been active in expanding and improving services for veterans, especially in under-served rural areas.
