Cut-Off for Post Primary Campaign Finance Reports for State Candidates
“A Veteran’s Guide to Doing Business with the Government” will provide an introduction to the procurement process focusing on the preferences given to businesses owned by veterans and disabled veterans.
“There are a number of opportunities out there for veteran-owned businesses, and we need to do everything possible to ensure that the folks in my district are taking advantage of those opportunities,” he said. “These businesses are a vital part of our community, and they should fight for the resources to which they are entitled.”
In order to qualify for these set-asides, a veteran must own 51 percent of the business. For more information and to register for the free seminar, call Space’s Zanesville Office at (740) 452-6338.

Attorney General Marc Dann to discuss "The Predatory
Lending Debacle, and What the State Is Doing to Stop It”
at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law
April 14; 4:00 p.m.
Cleveland-Marshall College of Law
Moot Court Room
In recent years, Cleveland has had the dubious distinction of leading the country in the foreclosure epidemic that has spared few American cities. Within Cuyahoga County, Cleveland has been especially hard hit, as families on both sides of the Cuyahoga River have been forced to walk away from their homes. In Cleveland’s poorer neighborhoods, the sites of boarded-up and vandalized houses, crime and homelessness are on the rise. Shuttered homes line the streets of the older, inner-inner-ring suburbs as well.
Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann will discuss the state’s foreclosure crisis in a free public lecture, “The Predatory Lending Debacle, and What the State Is Doing to Stop It," on April 14 at 4:00 p.m. at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law on East 18th and Euclid Avenue. There will be an opportunity for members of the audience to question the Attorney General following his presentation, and a reception will follow the event.
Attorney General Dann is appearing as a guest of the law school’s Democratic Law Organization (D-LO).
Marc Dann, a former Ohio Democratic State Senator, was elected Ohio Attorney General in November 2006. In the office of Attorney General, he serves as an advocate of the people of Ohio and its institutions.
Since his inauguration in January 2007, he has been diligent in his efforts to protect homeowners from exploitation by unscrupulous mortgage lenders. During his years in the Ohio Senate, Mr. Dann played a critical role in the investigation of Coingate, the scandal surrounding the investment of $50 million by the Bureau of Workers Compensation in rare coins peddled by Tom Noe, a long-time Republican fundraiser.

This year, Senator Sherrod Brown and others will be hosting a series of fundraisers to Secure Our Senate. As you may know, after eight difficult and destructive years, our next president will only be able to effect the change we so desperately need if the Senate cooperates in adopting better policies--like health care for all, stopping the looming catastrophe from climate change, etc. Realistically, that will only happen with new leaders in the Senate (and keeping a few of the good folks who are in competitive races this year).

Gov. Ted Strickland is the special guest speaker at the Worker's Memorial Day event tonight (4/28) from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the UAW Local 647 Hall, 10020 Reading Road.
From the UAW site:
Seven UAW members died on the job in 2007 and three have already lost their lives this year. These sad facts underscore the importance of Workers Memorial Day on April 28, 2008. On this day, we remember those who have died on the job and recommit to making sure every worker arrives home at their end of their shift in the same condition as when they left home to report for work.
The challenges are daunting. There are employers out there who see health and safety as an afterthought compared to profits and productivity, especially in a down economy
"As UAW members, we know nothing is more important than our health and safety," UAW President Ron Gettelfinger said. "Even though membership in a union means far better focus on health and safety when compared to non-union workplaces, we must remain ever vigilant about protecting ourselves from dangerous workplaces. We owe that to ourselves, our families and our communities."
Music, food, and drinks are featured at tonight's event.

On the fifth anniversary of George Bush's infamous "Mission Accomplished" speech, Cuyahoga County Commissioner Tim Hagan and North Shore Federation of Labor Executive Secretary Harriet Applegate will respond to John McCain's campaign event in Cleveland.
The press conference at 9:00 a.m. at the North Shore Federation of Labor, Laborers Local 310, 3250 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland will be followed by a demonstration outside the McCain town hall event at the InterContinental Cleveland at 9801 Carnegie Avenue at around 10 a.m.
While our Democratic Presidential campaigns continue the primary process, John McCain has begun the general election. He has just this week come to Ohio on a "Reinvention Tour" seeking to fool Ohioans into believing he can fix our economy.
We don't have a Democratic nominee to fight back yet, so telling the truth to the people of Ohio about his record of failure on the economy is our job. Will you join?
