Among the many glaring contrasts between the presidential candidates is Obama's evident appreciation of the power of the internet and McCain's admitted failure to even engage with internet basics like email and Google. In short, tech policy is yet another powerful reason to vote for the candidate who offers real change, not a return to the past. Next Wednesday evening in Columbus, come hear internet pioneer Craig Newmark (of Craig's List) and internet law expert Peter Swire talk about the importance of tech policy and why people who appreciate the power of the internet should get involved in supporting the Obama campaign. Consider this. John McCain said earlier this year: "I have never felt the particular need to email." When it came to a fact, he said you can look it up on "a Google." And he said: "I am learning to get online myself, and I will have that down pretty soon." The next president needs to be in touch with technology and understand the importance of the internet. Barack Obama and his campaign, by contrast, have been pioneers in using the Internet, wireless technology, and other cutting-edge applications to link average voters together and empower them to create political change. Once elected President, Barack Obama can lead the government, the national economy, and Ohio back to global leadership in innovation and new technology. The nation can’t afford to pick a leader who hopes to get online for the first time “pretty soon.” Everyone who recognizes the importance of the Internet to our economy and our future should come listen to Newmark and Swire, learn, and get involved. Bruce Springsteen will perform in a free live concert at the Main Oval at The Ohio State University at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 5th, encouraging Barack Obama supporters to register and take advantage of Ohio’s early voting period that ends the following day: Springsteen’s appearance at OSU’s Main Oval will highlight Ohio’s early voting window, which as of yesterday allows for voters to cast their ballots in person at designated early vote locations across the state. The rally, held the day before Ohio’s voter registration deadline, will also encourage attendees to register to vote for the first time, or update their registration. Springsteen endorsed Senator Obama in April, writing that the Democratic nominee “speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music ... a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit.” “Senator Obama is a great fan of Bruce Springsteen and is honored to have his support,” said Aaron Pickrell, the Ohio State Director of the Obama-Biden campaign. “His presence at the rally will provide our campaign with the opportunity to mobilize tens of thousands of our supporters in one place to go out and vote early, as well as to register new voters and sign up new volunteers who will help our campaign for change send Barack Obama to the White House.” Details after the break. The walking tour began on October 5th and is hitting dozens of Ohio cities. Along the way, Rugola is stopping at job sites that have been closed down or severely downsized. Rugola also meets with workers, emphasizing that we cannot afford another four more years of Bush/McCain policies. “The Bush administration has wrecked our economy and destroyed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ohio’s working families, and John McCain is committed to policies that promise more devastation for our communities and our people,” said Rugola in a press release about the tour. “The challenge now is to reverse these trends and this election presents Ohioans with a chance to right the ship by electing a president who will put working families and the middle class first - Barack Obama."
