Bruce Springsteen will perform in a free live concert at the Main Oval at The Ohio State University at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 5th, encouraging Barack Obama supporters to register and take advantage of Ohio’s early voting period that ends the following day:
Springsteen’s appearance at OSU’s Main Oval will highlight Ohio’s early voting window, which as of yesterday allows for voters to cast their ballots in person at designated early vote locations across the state. The rally, held the day before Ohio’s voter registration deadline, will also encourage attendees to register to vote for the first time, or update their registration.
Springsteen endorsed Senator Obama in April, writing that the Democratic nominee “speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my music ... a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the potential of its gathered spirit.”
“Senator Obama is a great fan of Bruce Springsteen and is honored to have his support,” said Aaron Pickrell, the Ohio State Director of the Obama-Biden campaign. “His presence at the rally will provide our campaign with the opportunity to mobilize tens of thousands of our supporters in one place to go out and vote early, as well as to register new voters and sign up new volunteers who will help our campaign for change send Barack Obama to the White House.”

Clarke served as an advisor to the Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton and George W. Bush Administrations, eventually focusing his efforts on intelligence, counter-terrorism and cyber-security. Most notably, he was the chief counter-terrorism advisor for the National Security Council during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
In March 2004, Clarke released a controversial memoir titled Against All Enemies: Inside America's War on Terror--What Really Happened. The book was deeply critical of the Bush Administration's stance on terrorism prior to the 9/11 attacks. Clarke also criticized the Administration's decision to go to war in Iraq, saying it was a costly distraction to the war on terror. During the public 9/11 Commission hearings, he was the only member of the Bush Administration to offer an apology to the victims and to acknowledge the government's failure.
He will discuss his experiences and offer reflections on current security issues.

To highlight the economic difficulties many Ohioans face and help draw attention to the failed Republican policies that have resulted in more than 180,000 Ohio jobs lost, Ohio AFL-CIO President Joe Rugola is engaged in a walk through regions of Ohio hardest hit by the economic policies of the last eight years. The walking tour began on October 5th and is hitting dozens of Ohio cities. Along the way, Rugola is stopping at job sites that have been closed down or severely downsized. Rugola also meets with workers, emphasizing that we cannot afford another four more years of Bush/McCain policies.
“The Bush administration has wrecked our economy and destroyed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Ohio’s working families, and John McCain is committed to policies that promise more devastation for our communities and our people,” said Rugola in a press release about the tour. “The challenge now is to reverse these trends and this election presents Ohioans with a chance to right the ship by electing a president who will put working families and the middle class first - Barack Obama."
Stops planned for tomorrow (10/21) in Southeast Ohio are detailed after the break.

Peter Yarrow is a member of the Peter, Paul & Mary, the most successful folk music group in history. At 70, Yarrow is not only one of the best-known proponents of the late-1950s/early '60s American folk music revival movement, but he is still extremely active, as a performer and social activist.
Peter, Paul and Mary sang at the March on Washington in 1963 and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the historic Selma-to-Montgomery march in 1965. Yarrow helped organize and run the early Newport Folk Festivals, which launched the careers of many young folk singers, such as Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.
Yarrow has written several well-known songs, including "Puff, the Magic Dragon," a children's song recorded by Peter, Paul & Mary, and "Torn Between Two Lovers," a number-1hit for Mary McGregor. This past spring, "Peter, Bethany & Rufus: Spirit of Woodstock" appeared on national public television. It featured 17 songs, performed in concert with his daughter, Bethany.

From Callahan:
The Great Bank Bailout was first proposed by the Secretary of the Treasury and the Federal Reserve Chairman on September 18, less than 40 days ago. Just think of what's happened since then. $700 billion in "capital infusions" approved for the financial industry. Wachovia acquired by Wells Fargo. WaMu acquired by JP Morgan Chase. National City acquired by PNC, using $5.5 billion in bailout funds. And talk -- endless talk -- about whether and how to bail out homeowners facing default and foreclosure. Now think about what hasn't changed: Since that day in September, despite all the talk, 1,271 new foreclosure cases have been filed in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court. And 596 more foreclosed Cuyahoga County properties have been sold at Sheriff's sale.
This must stop. Now. But it won't, unless we make it stop.
That's why you need to be at the Justice Center this Thursday at 4 pm to help the Foreclosure Action Coalition tell our elected county judges: Enough is enough. It's time to Freeze The Foreclosures!
Details after the break.
Third party candidates Bob Barr, Ralph Nader, and Chuck Baldwin will debate at the City Club of Cleveland.
